TANK VS. TANKLESS WATER HEATERS

Which type is right for your home?

There’s no single right answer for every home. Choosing between a tank and tankless water heater comes down to your household’s hot water needs, your budget, and how much space you have to work with. Traditional tank water heaters store and heat a set amount of water, making them a reliable, budget-friendly choice for many homes. Tankless systems heat water on demand, which means you get a continuous supply of hot water without the standby energy loss of a traditional tank.

  • Traditional tank

    Reliable, familiar, widely available

Stores a set amount of hot water and reheats as needed. Lower upfront cost, straightforward maintenance, and works with every fuel type. Best for most standard Butler County homes.

  • Tankless/on-demand

    Reliable, familiar, widely available

Heats water only when you need it, so no standby energy loss. Uses roughly half the energy of a tank system and takes up much less space. Higher upfront cost but lower long-term operating costs.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

4 things your water heater
contractor should have

  • Experience with both tank and tankless systems

Not every technician is well versed in both types of water heaters. Look for a company that regularly installs and services tank and tankless systems, so you know you’re getting knowledgeable advice no matter which type you have.

  • Proper licensing and certification

A qualified water heater expert should carry the right licenses and certifications for your area. This ensures the work meets local codes and safety standards, giving you peace of mind that the job is done right. (Pelles: License #PA029720)

  • Honest, upfront assessments

The right expert won’t push you toward an unnecessary repair or replacement. They'll give you a clear, honest explanation of what’s wrong and what your options are, so you can make the decision that works best for your home and budget.

  • A strong local reputation

A company with a long history in your community has likely earned that reputation through consistent, reliable work. Look for reviews, testimonials, and years of service that show a proven track record.

FAQS

Common questions our customers have about water heaters

We serve Mars, Cranberry Township, Southern Butler County, and areas north of Pittsburgh. Give us a call at 724-625-2444 and we’ll get a technician out to assess your home.

Yes. Like any mechanical system, ventilation systems need periodic filter changes and inspections to keep them running well. Our NATE-certified technicians (North American Technician Excellence) are experienced in the maintenance and care of fresh air and ventilation systems.

If you’re noticing condensation on windows, musty smells, or family members with worsening allergies indoors, those are strong signs that you and your home can benefit from a ventilation system. Our technicians can assess your home’s air quality and tell you honestly whether a ventilation upgrade makes sense, or whether a smaller fix will do the job.

Not with the right equipment. Energy and heat recovery ventilators are built specifically to bring in fresh air without losing the conditioned air you’ve already paid to heat or cool. That’s the whole point of the technology.

Your heating and cooling system moves air around the house and adjusts temperature. It doesn’t bring in new outdoor air. A ventilation system’s whole job is that exchange, fresh air in, stale air out, so the two systems actually work together rather than doing the same thing.

Opening windows helps sometimes, but it’s not reliable. It lets in outdoor allergens, undoes your heating and cooling efficiency, and isn’t practical in winter or summer. A ventilation system exchanges air continuously and automatically, without the energy loss.

Yes. Our NATE-certified technicians (North American Technician Excellence) install UV light systems on virtually any ducted heating and cooling equipment, regardless of who installed it originally. If you’re not sure whether your system qualifies, give us a call.

Not usually. Most systems mount directly into your existing ductwork near the indoor coil, and installation is typically finished in a single visit. There’s no rework needed on your duct system itself.

No, and it isn’t meant to. Filters and UV lights solve different problems. Filters trap particles as air passes through. UV lights target the biological growth living inside your system. Used together, they cover more ground than either one alone.

Most UV bulbs are rated for one to two years of continuous use before they need replacing. Beyond that, there’s very little to maintain. We check bulb function during your regular maintenance visits so it’s never something you have to track yourself.
